TIE DAYS PICKER RUN by Gerean Pflug, The Oregon Pick
What is becoming one of the most popular Pickers & Antique Event in Southern Oregon, Tie Days Picker Run, is sponsored by Shady Kate’s in Shady Cove, Oregon. The 2012 multi-layered Picker Run Event appeals to all age groups and involves numerous antique stores and mercantiles throughout Southern Oregon.
WHAT IS THE TIE DAYS PICKER RUN ?
Developed from the “Poker Run” concept, the Tie Days Picker Run was originally created for a Shady Cove Father’s Day event in which neck ties were used as the theme. The neck tie theme continued and has become a brand for Shady Kate’s. Participants gather punches on game cards by visiting sponsoring businesses. Card punches add up to opportunities for entries into a drawing that will be held the last day of the event.
HOW CAN I PLAY TO ENTER THE DRAWING?
The Tie Days Picker Run begins on August 4th and ends on August 25th with an all-day party at Shady Kate’s.
Anyone over the age of 18 can participate by visiting any/all of the sponsoring antique stores/mercantiles listed below. Upon your first visit to one of the sponsoring stores, ask for a picker map and a game card. At each visit to a participating store, you will receive a discount on any purchases made AND will receive one punch on your game card. Five punches anywhere qualifies the player to enter their name once; 1 punch per town qualifies for 3 entries; all stops qualifies for 5 entries. for the drawing which will be held at the all-day celebration at Shady Kate’s on August 25th. The prize for this years drawing is a chainsaw-carved salmon valued at $500.00. The prize is on display now at Shady Kate’s.

PICKETY PLACE, A Photo-Blog, by Gerean Pflug, The Oregon Pick
Located at 130 N. 4th Street,
in the heart of historical Jacksonville, OR
Celebrates 26 years in business !
Inspired by the white picket fence that borders the store,
Jacksonville resident, Jackie Cauble, first opened the store in 1986
and named it Pickety Place.
Cauble was adamant that the store sell antiques only.
She discouraged the sale of glass
and items that were recently manufactured.
“Welcome” states the front door at Pickety Place
and the vending members of the store, make it their mission
to make all who enter feel welcome.
In the new millennium, the store glitters with color.
The windows that span the entire front wall of the store
are a perfect back-light to the stores amazing collection of colored glass.
A kaleidoscope of dazzling color
splashes across the walls,
creating prism-like reflections
throughout the front of the store.
The U-shaped, glass-topped sales counter displays
gems, jewels, baubles, buttons
and a myriad of unique sparkling treasures.
The merchandise categories are broad,
falling mostly in the realm of vintage, antique & collectible.
The utmost attention is given in displaying the store’s wide range of merchandise.
Pickety Place is operated, merchandised and staged
by a team of 4 vending members,
Alice, Gwen, Lisa & Julie.
These vendors also represent merchandise at :
Pickety Place is taking applications for a new vending member!

JPR Foundation Holds Holly Theatre Relighting on April 21st
The JPR Foundation and the Medford Urban Renewal Agency (MURA) invite you to the Holly Theatre Grand Relighting on Saturday, April 21 at 7pm. The event is free and will mark the completed restoration of the Holly Theatre’s historic façade – the first phase of bringing the 1,000-seat,1930-era classic theatre back to life as a venue for live entertainment, cultural and film events.
As part of the façade restoration, the Holly Theatre’s 6th Street façade has been reconfigured to the way it was originally constructed when it was built in 1929-30. Aluminum awnings and other modifications added to the building over the years have been removed, windows have been refurbished, roofing and gutters have been repaired, facade brick has been cleaned and repointed, new poster cases and doors have been fabricated and installed, paint colors have been returned to their original hues, a new tile entryway has been created using the pattern of the original entry and, most dramatically, the theatre’s 33-foot blade sign and marquee have been replicated to match the building’s original signs. All restored elements have been completed in consultation with Medford’s Landmark and Historic Preservation Commission and the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office and are consistent with the U.S. Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Rehabilitation of Historic Properties.
